Queenstown & Milford Sounds

Now I had heard many positive things about Queenstown and of course it lived up to its expectations. I would say an ideal amount of time to stay in Queenstown would be 4/5 days rather than cramming it all into a couple of days. The town is built on the beautiful Lake Wakatipu and has some of the most unbelievable landscape views I have seen.

What a view to wake up to ay? Got to admit, as beautiful as it looks it was absolutely freezing. Even wearing 2 jumpers and sleeping in two sleeping bags and a big blanket didn’t stop me from shivering!

I have waited a long time to see proper snowy mountains reflecting off a lake on a sunny day and that day finally arrived!
There is a lot to do here in Queenstown including Skiing, Snowboarding, day trips to Milford Sound, boat trips, bungy jumps and so much more!

Due to only having 2 nights here we had to decide on a couple of things we have really wanted to do/see, first being a day trip to Milford Sounds! It worked out cheaper to do a day trip from Queenstown rather than driving down ourselves and also saved us a lot of time to explore other areas of the island.

Time to hop on the bus down to Milford Sound…with a couple of view point stop off’s on the way! The downside to this trip was that you had to be on the bus for 10 hours in total, 5 hours to get there and 5 hours back but we had a great tour guide telling us all about the history behind Milford Sounds and the National park it is located in.

This is a Kea! Known as the Mountain Parrot!

Milford Sound is located in Fiordland National Park and is known as one of New Zealand’s most popular and most beautiful natural attractions. The weather wasn’t fantastic which was a shame however it cleared up nice enough when we arrived at Milford Sound to hop on the boat. From start to finish you are surrounded by cliffs, rainforest, waterfalls and wildlife…this is a trip not to miss when you are on the South Island.

You sail through Milford Sounds for almost 2 hours and have a live commentary so you can learn all about the history behind this beautiful place.
